The Los Angeles County Arboretum
Our Canon PowerShot bit the dust, so I was at a botanical garden without an actual camera - something similar to torture. To say I like to take a lot of pictures of flowers and stuff is a bit of an understatement. But it turns out there was a lot less flowers and a lot more bark at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Due to major damage caused by a wind storm in November, most of that bark was either lying on the ground or being sawed into smaller pieces and cleaned up. There were still things to see, so I was forced to capture nature with my smartphone camera. You can judge the results for yourself. Click to Enlarge Welcome to the Arboretum. Click to Enlarge There are purty things to see at the Arboretum. Click to Enlarge According to Mr. Sign here, there's a tropical forest, a cottage and a waterfall. Click to Enlarge And large clearings, where trees used to be. Click to Enlarge The ponds are full of ducks ... and giant machines that pull junk out of ponds. Click to Enlarge Here's the cottage. It was featured in a TV show in the 70s that only your parents and Aaron Spelling remember. Click to Enlarge It's a pretty Victorian cottage. Click to Enlarge There's a barn, where apparently pumpkins go to die.
Click to Enlarge The cottage's back porch has a splendid view of a pond. Click to Enlarge The pond has ducks and geeses. Click to Enlarge Say "goodbye" to the cottage! Click to Enlarge Pretty, pretty palm trees. Click to Enlarge There's also an adobe, but they weren't selling copies of PhotoShop. Click to Enlarge And there's an old train depot. Click to Enlarge There are plants around the depot, in case you're still wondering if you're in an arboretum. Click to Enlarge Peanut sat on a railroad track... Click to Enlarge History and stuff.
Click to Enlarge This is where the old-timey people read their copies of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." Click to Enlarge What doesn't belong in this picture? Click to Enlarge Back to the arboretum. There's the man-made waterfall. Click to Enlarge And carnivorous birds that prey on small children.
